I myself find it hard to watch the news, since 99% of it is always negative. The main news I keep up with is Sports Center on ESPN. And even they sometimes focus on the negatives in sports news, but usually not as much as the regular news agencies. If I do watch the news, I watch CNN. I just like the way they cover stories and most of the anchors try and give an accurate account of what is going on. I refuse to watch FOX news, they are the worst. They showed their true colors when the election process was going on. They did their best to drag Obama, and everyone associated with him, through the mud. I heard they were notorious for that but had not seen it myself before then. If there is something going on and I want to find out about it, I just Google it....
The net is so much easier, I guess that backs up the statement that Americans are lazy, lol. At any rate, all in all I really don't read the local paper, and hardly ever watch the local news. The paper is full of death and nuclear threats from other countries. While the local news always talks about who got robbed or shot, and drug houses being busted. I never see a story that says man helps starnded motorist change tire or family provides food for homeless man. I want to start a news channel that just reports on all the good that is going on in the local area. That way we can provide a positive outlook for our youth. That's just my take on the news as a whole, feel free to chime in.

Self Review
On my first paper for 1102, I think I did a good to average job. I always feel as if my writings could be better, especially now. 12-14 years ago I loved to write and was pretty good at it. Once I got out of scholl I didn't do it much and just lost my skill and desire to do it. I hope to oneday acheive the standards I set for myself, but until that day I will continue to work at it. The topic was given and I feel as if I did a decent job in expounding on the topic and good job of organizing my material. My vocabulary is of average use, probably no where near the capabilities of the average college student. My grammar and mechanics is of fair condition at the best. I have forgotten all rules and formats of years ago. I struggle with fragments and run-ons, as well as punctuation. after reading my paper I get the overall impression it is average but needs some work. I will continue to strive for greatness and learn as much as possible along the way.
Should Cell Phones be Allowed in School?
I don't think kids should have cell phones until they get their drivers licence. Think about it, a responsible adult will pretty much know where their child is until this point. Why wouldn't they? They have to drive them there, or at the very least ensure they have transportation, right? Once they start to drive on their own I can see a necessity for it, but before then there is just no need. I mean if they have an emergency in school, it's not like the school doesn't have a phone for them to use. I went to a school way out in the country, and even we had phones in every office. Thinking back I can't remember a time when I needed a cell phone in school. Maybe it's because my parents were responsible enough to pick me up on time from practice or whatever else I might have had going on. But that is probably a whole different debate in itself, so back to the topic at hand.
Cell phones are like a fad, that just didn't go away. Every where you look you see someone on a cell phone, walking, driving, eating or whatever the case may be? So we as adults think it is ok, to pass along this distractions to easily distracted children? I am 30 yrs old and when I get a text in class, I get distarcted and read it and somtimes reply. Not on time has it been an important text just some random, what's up? I see it everyday in my classes, and to me that just shows that kids don't need them in school. They need to focus on why they are there and not what's going on in another class. just a few of my opinions on the topic, I will be glad to expand if anyone has any issues or questions about what I've typed. Until next time, have a great day!
